Unlock PDF

100% in your browser
No limits

Drop a password-protected PDF, enter the password, and get an unrestricted copy. Files never leave your device.

How it works

  1. Drop a password-protected PDF into the upload area.
  2. Enter the password that opens the file. We don't try to guess or crack — you need the actual password.
  3. Click 'Unlock PDF'.
  4. Download the unlocked copy. It opens in any viewer without a password and all restrictions are removed.
  5. The original locked PDF on your device is untouched.

Frequently asked questions

What encryption versions can you unlock?

RC4 (40-bit and 128-bit), AES-128, and AES-256 — i.e. everything PDF security handlers have produced since 1996. As long as you have the password, we decrypt.

I don't know the password — can you crack it?

No. Modern PDFs (AES-128/256 with a long passphrase) are uncrackable in practice. Browser-based brute force isn't possible. You need the actual password.

What if the PDF has only an owner password (printing/editing restrictions, no open password)?

Some PDFs are 'restricted' but not encrypted to open. We require the user password regardless. For permission-only restrictions, try entering an empty password — some files accept it.

Is the password sent anywhere?

No. Key derivation and decryption both run locally in your browser. Your password is held in memory only for the duration of the operation.

What about my file?

Same answer — never uploaded. The file is read and rewritten entirely in your browser tab.
